DESCENT FROM THE CROSS BY TORCHLIGHT. 1654. Bartsch/Hollstein 83, only state. Etching and drypoint, 211 x 160 mm (8 5/16 x 6 5/16"), trimmed along the plate mark on three sides, and very slightly unevenly at left.
A fine, dark, richly inked impression with burr on the man supporting Christ, on the man holding the cloth, on Christ’s beard, and on the cross. Discoloration at upper left corner, small flaws.
Provenance: Sophie Rosenwald Adler (Lessing Rosenwald’s aunt).
