PORTRAIT OF DANIEL-HENRI KAHNWEILER (1884-1976). 3 June 1957. Bloch 834, only state. Lithograph on Arches paper, 645 x 495 mm (25.39 x 19.49"), the full sheet. Signed in red crayon and numbered "4/50" in pencil.
Daniel-Henri Kahnweiler succeeded Ambroise Vollard as Picasso's dealer in 1912. This is the first of three lithographs drawn at Picasso's home in Cannes on 3 June 1957. He drew with black litho crayon on transfer paper fixed to a wooden board, creating the vertical strips in the composition. Final printing took place at the studio of the master printer Fernand Mourlot, in Rue de Chabrol in Paris, where Picasso had experimented and collaborated on lithography since 2 November 1945.
