François Perrier (le Bourguignon) (1594 - 1649)

THE TRIUMPH OF BACCHUS, after Giulio Romano. Robert-Dumesnil 152+153? or 161+162?. Engraving and etching, 30.4 x 85.7 cm (image) (11.97 x 33.74"), on two sheets of paper that have been connected. A fine impression of this great rarity, with some condition problems: repaired tears, flattened folds, and slight soiling at edges.

Attributed to François Chauveau (1613-1676) by the British Museum, and described as a copy of the engraving by Cornelis Bos: New Hollstein 507.b.i (of iii) (under Maarten van Heemskerck). Some say that the source is a painting by M. van Heermskerck in the Albertina; however, our print specifically cites Giulio Romano as the designer.

$8,500.
