Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin (1699 - 1779) is considered the greatest still-life painter of the 18th century, and his canvases are coveted by the world's most distinguished museums and collectors. He also executed some fine portraits, especially the pastels of his last years. His self-portrait is in the Louvre.
